Stanley A. Eldridge, 86, of Knightsville, IN went home to be with his Lord at St. Vincent Clay Hospital, July 26, 2010 following an extended illness. He was born May 10, 1924, in Brazil, IN the son of Stanley Raymond and Georgia (Whittner) Eldridge. He graduated from Brazil High School with the class of 1942. Following high school he enlisted in the United States Army where he served in the 77th Infantry “Statue of Liberty” Division. He served bravely in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. After returning from the war he married his high school sweet heart Phyllis Evans on May 3, 1946. He worked for G and F Coal Corporation as a Coal Miner and truck driver for several years. After the coal company closed he was employed by General Motors Truck and Coach Division, in Indianapolis, IN until retirement at the age of 62. He was a member of the Carbon Baptist Church, Knightsville Mens Club, and the Knightsville Masonic Lodge. In his free time he enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing and spending time with family. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers: William Winfield Eldridge in infancy and Donald Eldridge in the Korean War. Stanley is survived by his wife of 64 years Phyllis; children: Stanley Richard Eldridge of Terre Haute, Maxine Marie Miller (Jeffrey) of New London, PA, and Anita Ruth Wilson of Brazil; grandchildren: Matthew Allan Miller (Tessa), Amanda Marie Miller, Sara Ruth Marie Wilson Roberson, and Christopher Gene Richard Wilson (Alisha); great grandchildren: Isaac Roberson, Gracelyn Roberson, William Wilson, and Hailey Wilson; siblings: Jack Eldridge, Joyce Kidwell, Larry Eldridge, and Stella Modesitt as well as several nieces, nephews and extended family members. Funeral InformationServices will be at French Funeral Home Friday July 30, 2010 at 1:00pm with Pastor Howard Hughes officiating. Burial will follow at Clearview Cemetery with military rites being provided by the American Legion Post 2, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1127 as well as members of the United States Army. Visitation will be at the funeral home Thursday from 6-9pm with Masonic services at 7:30pm.
